Pinot Noir

Pinot noir is generally described as being pale in colour, translucent in nature and usually has subtle flavours. The grape itself is tricky to grow and trickier still to vinify perhaps that is why good quality Pinot noir fetches some of the highest prices of any cultivar in the world. Born in Burgundy, France where it is still referred to as red burgundy, this wine is expressive of ripe red berries, black cherries, mushrooms and forest floor. Pinot noirs from more Southern or "new world" winemaking regions tend to be bigger, richer and fruitier than old world Pinot noirs.
