This red blend of Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache Noir, Shiraz, and Cabernet Franc is an intriguing mélange of spice, fruit, and aromatics, reflecting the 2024 vintage with fascinating accuracy. This vintage experienced a wet winter and sharply hotter summer, which led to lower yields but concentrated fruit, all of which is on show in this wine. The backbone of the richer cultivars, such as the Pinotage, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon, are offset by the spicy and aromatic Cabernet Franc and Grenache Noir, illustrating the mastery of the winemakers’ blending craft.

The different batches of selected grapes were picked at optimum ripeness at different times and separately vinified. After destemming, the Pinotage and the Shiraz underwent cold soaking for two days for colour and flavour extraction. During fermentation gentle pump-overs were used and after fermentation the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet franc were left on the skins for an extended period to ensure a softening of the phenolic compounds, resulting in a rich and elegant smoothness on the palate.

Vineyards with a track record of producing the best quality wines over a few years were specifically selected. These vineyards are grown on two dominant soil types, namely decomposed granite and shale soils. The well-drained granite soils produce wines with a unique minerality and elegance. The shale soil's main characteristics are that it contains a significant amount of clay in the subsoil with good water retention, which produces full wines with concentrated flavours and complexity. The vineyards are planted on north to northwest-facing slopes, which are exposed to optimal sunshine during the day but low temperatures during the night, which is important for colour intensity and stability in red wine.
