Chamonix is a Franschhoek wine estate set against the Mont Rochelle mountain, with vineyards planted to classic French varieties and shaped by cool breezes and stony clay-rich soils. Known for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc, the estate produces mountain-influenced wines with freshness, structure and clear Franschhoek character.
Description
The Greywacke Pinotage has a deep garnet red colour with tinges of dark violet when young. The bouquet is complex with scents recalling wild berries, spice and cherries. On the palate the wine shows full body and rich dark chocolate with fruit flavours, balanced elegantly by tannins, with a long and lingering finish that reveals a sweetness reminiscent of liquorice.
Food Pairing
This Chardonnay would suit seafood well, for example, fresh grilled kingklip with fennel and roasted tomatoes.
