Merlot

This Merlot pairs well with traditional bobotie, spaghetti Bolognese, lasagne, grilled chicken, and beef stews.

Grapes for this wine are sourced from two vineyards in Franschhoek, including the Rickety Bridge estate and another property in the valley. Both blocks yield approximately 6–8 tonnes per hectare.

The wine matured for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, comprising 15% new and 85% older barrels.

Fermentation occurred in open fermentation tanks at 22–25°C with two punch downs daily. After 21 days on the skins, the wine was pressed. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks.

Rickety Bridge Winery is an historic Franschhoek wine estate. Situated in the renowned Franschhoek valley the food and wine capital of South Africa the Rickety Bridge winery and Country Manor House nestle against the hillside overlooking vineyards and the majestic Wemmershoek Mountains. The land dates back to 1694 when the farms were granted to the first French Huguenots who settled in the area.
