Vineyard Selection Chenin Blanc

French cheese, veal or fresh seafood.

The wine comes from selected Stellenbosch bush-vine vineyards averaging about 35 years old, planted predominantly on decomposed granite soils. Careful canopy management is used to avoid excessive bunch exposure and support even ripening.

After fermentation, the wine remained on its primary lees for seven months before being racked and prepared for bottling. No new barrels were used.

Grapes were handpicked early in the morning, crushed and given 24 hours of skin contact, with a small portion whole-bunch pressed. Only free-run juice was used. The wine was fermented predominantly in older French oak, with smaller components in concrete egg and terracotta amphora.

Kleine Zalze wines are marked by a classical structure and complexity matched by a vibrant flavour intensity. Discernibly South African in style, they are refreshing, beautifully balanced and well-suited to food. Our wines are made according to traditional methods with minimal cellar intervention, but supported by modern equipment.
