This DLS project has evolved and become more complex since we selected this incredible vineyard in 2015. These vines are bush or gobelet trained, planted with no irrigation in totally sandy soils of decomposed granite at approx 650m above sea level facing the west coast and Elands Bay. Even more importantly this vineyard was planted in 1959

I decided that the most complete picture of this amazing vineyard was in fact the complex blend of multiple vintages – stored in very old French Oak 400L barrels as blends across the years and then added to and abetted with fresh juice for each release. This is our third release from 6 vintages and somehow this is, I believe, the most complete to date with a luscious and complex blend of 4 vintages from 2016-2020.

In 1993 hospitality industry veteran Ken Forrester and his wife Teresa purchased the historic Scholtzenhof estate nestled at the base of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch. Originally established in 1689 as Zandberg the property is one of the oldest wine farms in the Cape. Ken enlisted the help of his winemaker friend Martin Meinert in replanting and revitalizing the vineyards with an aim to craft a white wine that could rival any in the world! And so it was that Ken Forrester Vineyards was established with a focus on Chenin Blanc production.
