We finalise the blend before the wine goes into French oak (Foudres - 6000L wooden vats; 1st, 2nd and 3rd fill barriques – 225Ls). This ensures a beautiful “marriage” between the different varietals over a 24 month period in oak. Post bottling, we then cellar the wine for a further 12-18 months before the wine is released onto the market.

Hermanuspietersfontein is a Walker Bay producer with one of South Africa’s most distinctive wine identities, from its long Afrikaans name to its playful, Afrikaans-only wine labels. Behind the laid-back personality is a serious focus on cool-climate wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Bordeaux-style blends and regional favourites from the Hermanus area.
