Reserve Chenin Blanc

This Chenin Blanc pairs well with rich seafood, roasted poultry, and creamy pasta dishes, balancing its full-bodied texture with refreshing acidity.

The Chenin Blanc grapes are sourced from low-yielding, trellised vines planted in 1972 on decomposed granite soils at elevations of 250-300 meters. Located in Stellenbosch, the vineyards benefit from cooling breezes from False Bay, enhancing the wine’s acidity and freshness.

The wine is aged for 10 months and can be enjoyed now or over the next several years to develop additional complexity.

Grapes are handpicked in three passes to ensure optimal ripeness. They are whole-bunch pressed, and the juice undergoes natural fermentation in French oak barrels (20% new). About 20% of the wine completes malolactic fermentation, and it matures on the lees for 10 months without stirring, which preserves its purity and enhances texture.

A hidden garden vineyard deep in the Stellenbosch Kloof, with sweeping views across False Bay to Cape Town, lies DeMorgenzon - a name derived from Dutch origin for “the morning sun.” From its hilltop manor, this prestigious and graceful family estate is home to Wendy and Hylton Appelbaum. Classical music drifts through the garden vineyards. The earth has music for those who listen. Viticulturally, DeMorgenzon has predominantly south-facing slopes create a cooler microclimate in an otherwise warm region. This allows for the production of finely poised, ethereal Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, as well as sophisticated, highly aromatic Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. In keeping with their vinous philosophy, the estate is farmed regeneratively, fostering biodiversity and soil vitality to create a balanced, living ecosystem in the vineyards.
