Being a relatively old vine (22 years to be precise), and grown on sandy soil that has required its roots to go deep and its growth to be less vigorous (producing smaller, more concentrated bunches of fruit), Uitsig’s Semillon provides a wonderful viscosity on the palate.

After bottling the wine is aged in bottle for at least 12 months before release.

Second and third filled 600-liter French oak barrels are used until the fermentation is completed. Regular batonnage is carried out to add complexity during the seven-month aging process.

Constantia Uitsig is a historic Constantia wine estate focused on a small, considered range of South African wines. Rooted in one of the Cape’s oldest wine regions, the estate produces wines shaped by cool coastal influence, classic varieties and a clear sense of place.
