Alvi’s Drift is a third-generation, family-owned winery in South Africa’s Breede River Valley. Named after the bridge connecting the farm, our 410-hectare estate lies in the cool-climate Scherpenheuvel ward, where diverse soils shape our award-winning wines. From crisp whites to elegant reds, MCCs, and sparkling wines, each bottle reflects a love for craft and terroir. Led by winemaker Alvi van der Merwe, we blend tradition with innovation—doing more than expected, because we’re doing what we love.
Description
Intense black-cherry coloured with a youthful ruby rim, this wine offers complex aromas of rich, ripe black fruit with notes of prune, black cherry, and black currant. Layers of spice and hints of cedarwood combine with fruit to create an unforgettable taste experience. This wine’s black fruit flavours follow through on the palate, where silky-yet-firm tannins and well-balanced acidity combine to produce a well-rounded wine. This red wine will improve with maturation of up to 8 years, but can be enjoyed immediately.
Food Pairing
This red wine blend makes an excellent companion to roast lamb, grilled steak and will pair very well with rich oxtail dishes. It will also complement strong cheeses like Pecorino or mature cheddar.
