Sourced from a certified heritage old-vine Colombar block in Breedekloof, planted in 1984 on rocky mountain soils with sandy and clay subsoils.

Matured for a total of seven months in older oak barrels, including five months on fine lees.

Early-morning picked grapes were basket pressed. After 24 hours settling, the juice was racked to old 400 L and 500 L oak barrels for a three-week natural fermentation. Malolactic conversion was prevented to retain bright acidity; five months on fine lees added texture.

We are a small family wine business focussed on creating the most terroir-specific wines, predominantly from certified heritage vineyards. In every wine, we create the image of the vineyard, inclusive of soil and surrounding. We produce relatively small scale wines and focus on exclusivity and exceptional quality, demonstrating a viticultural area and grape typicity. Our objective for future wines is to locate vineyards whose story needs to be told, thereby creating unique styles of wine that will intrigue wine enthusiasts from around the globe. At Van Blommestein Wines, our quest is to create a wine, capturing the uniqueness of the terroir, right into our bottles.
