Foundation Stone Red

This blend pairs well with rich, savory dishes like ostrich, beef carpaccio, duck, venison, and rump steak with creamy pepper sauce​.

The grapes are sourced from vineyards in the Franschhoek, Walker Bay, and Breede River regions, planted in decomposed granite soils. The vines are well-manicured, yielding between 4-6 tonnes per hectare​.

The wine spent 18 months in older French oak barrels, which provided structure and complexity without overwhelming the fruit character​.

Fermentation occurred in open-top fermenters at 28°C, with four daily punch-downs. The wine was then gently pressed, and malolactic fermentation took place in older 225L and 500L French oak barrels. Each varietal was aged separately for 18 months before blending​.

Rickety Bridge Winery is an historic Franschhoek wine estate. Situated in the renowned Franschhoek valley the food and wine capital of South Africa the Rickety Bridge winery and Country Manor House nestle against the hillside overlooking vineyards and the majestic Wemmershoek Mountains. The land dates back to 1694 when the farms were granted to the first French Huguenots who settled in the area.
