We found two massal selections in Hermitage in 2009, and it was difficult to choose which one we wanted to plant at our new vineyard in Sicily. It then became a case of the 'Gordian knot', and we settled for both, and planted each in its own plot. We have never regretted this move because each of them gave us a different and vibrant wine.

Fermented naturally and matured in used barriques from top estates in Bordeaux.

Montecarrubo is a boutique winery located on the remains of an ancient volcanic crater in Sicily, Italy. The estate was founded in 2005 by Peter Vinding-Diers, a renowned Danish winemaker, and his wife Susie. Montecarrubo focuses on crafting high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. The vineyards benefit from constant sea breezes and volcanic soil, which contribute to the distinct character of the wines. Montecarrubo produces a variety of wines, including blends of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The wines are known for their vibrant flavours and elegant profiles. The winery uses traditional methods such as hand harvesting and fermentation in cement vats, followed by aging in old Pomerol barrels. Some of their notable wines include "Il Carrubo" and "Vignolo," which have received high praise for their complexity and richness​.
