Gran Reserva

After harvest, only the best plots were selected and vinified separately. Following fermentation, the final blend (coupage) was assembled and reserved for Gran Reserva quality. The wine then matured in French oak barrels for over two years before bottling. It remained in bottle for an additional three years prior to release to ensure optimal integration and complexity.

The grapes for this Gran Reserva come from estate-owned and long-term contracted vineyards in Rioja, with vines over 80 years old. These old vines grow in Rioja Alavesa’s calcareous clay soils at altitude, contributing to elegance and freshness. The 2018 vintage began with a hot, dry autumn, followed by a rainy winter and a delayed budbreak in mid-April. Spring and early summer saw showers and storms, requiring meticulous vineyard care to prevent disease. Véraison began in early August. Harvest was delayed by mid-September rains but finished under cool, dry conditions in early October, yielding healthy and balanced fruit.

Aged for approximately 28 months in French oak casks, followed by around three years of bottle maturation prior to release, following the traditional Gran Reserva ageing style.
