In 1993 hospitality industry veteran Ken Forrester and his wife Teresa purchased the historic Scholtzenhof estate nestled at the base of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch. Originally established in 1689 as Zandberg the property is one of the oldest wine farms in the Cape. Ken enlisted the help of his winemaker friend Martin Meinert in replanting and revitalizing the vineyards with an aim to craft a white wine that could rival any in the world! And so it was that Ken Forrester Vineyards was established with a focus on Chenin Blanc production.

Pat’s Garden Merlot has always been a blend of predominantly Merlot with the addition of about 8%-12% Cabernet Franc. This ‘blend’ conveniently fell within the legal framework for a wine labelled as a single varietal wine ... ‘all wine may be blended up to a maximum of 15%’. We thought, why is the magic number 15%? So, we set about doing some exploration using 4 of the traditional Bordeaux grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon...The result? We present the new Pat’s Garden Reserve 2018! A Bordeaux-inspired blend, offering the best of the 5 noble varieties of Bordeaux in one delicious bottle. Hints of cherries and mint with meat-spice and smoky undertones. Softly rounded and accessible wine with balanced tannins for early drinking.
