This bushvine vineyard is located in Wellington and was planted in 2007. Clay soil with pockets of shale and schist delivers a wine with fine, chalky tannins and beautiful aromas with a long finish.

Aged in neutral 500L and 300L barrels for 7 months. Lightly filtered prior to bottling.

Grapes were picked by hand on 1st March and kept in cold storage overnight. 50% whole bunch, spontaneous fermentation. Pressed after 12 days on the skins.

Illimis intends to honestly harness what nature offers, and follows a minimal intervention principle as far as possible, allowing the wine to express its origin with clarity, finesse, and complexity. Illimis, the Latin word for clarity, signifies winemaker Lucinda Heyns’ crystal clear winemaking philosophy. Wine should be a window to where its vineyard is rooted.
