Appearance: The wine has a pale lemon colour with a chromatic hue adding a flash of brilliance to the wine, especially noticeable when you are home at twilight, and there is a bottle chilling in the fridge, the last rays of the day penetrating the bottle. Nose: For a Sauvignon Blanc, the wine is not as pronounced as expected. Instead, the year in bottle added a fleshier aroma of fingered citron (buddha's hand) with a more resinous aroma than ordinary lemons and limes. These earthy aromas immediately evoke sweet herbaceous nuances such as pine, mint and dill with a light note of elderflower, passionfruit and river pebbles. As it evolves in the glass, a more decadent bouquet of grapefruit and green pear adds more interest with an ever so slight note of almond skin. Palate: The wine is dry with an arresting acidity and mouth-filling texture that coats your mouth and runs up the sides of your palate to where it joins up to deliver an explosive intensity on the midpalate. Medium alcohol adds to the viscosity and fills out the body. At the same time, the fresh acidity also adds structure as a poignant reminder of subtle yet vital elements that makes up a seamless and characterful Sauvignon Blanc. The intensity on the palate is more vivid than on the nose and adds flavour characteristics of nectarine, kiwi and kumquat to the already noted grapefruit and citron. And again, a bitter almond taste lingers with the long and saline finish.
