Goyenechea Winery was founded in 1868 by the brothers Santiago and Narciso Goyenechea. These Spanish immigrants commenced their business activity in Argentina by establishing wine and spirits stores in Buenos Aires. Later on they purchased an estate and winery in Villa Atuel to the south of the Mendoza Province. A few decades later between 1930 and 1940 the Goyenechea and the Arizu families planted vines and developed the largest vineyard in the world.
Description
Colour: rich ruby-red with purple hues. Nose: deeply complex and layered: a touch of ripe red fruit highlights a rich core of black fruit such as blackberry, cherry and black currant, with spicy overtones of cocoa, vanilla, liquorice and cinnamon. On the palate it displays medium body with austere but warm and harmonious notes of coffee and tobacco.
Food Pairing
Pasta dishes with rich tomato sauce, roast and grilled meats. Sagrantino di Montefalco is also excellent with spicy chicken, beef, lamb, game or cheeses.
