Edouard Delaunay
Founded in 1893, Edouard Delaunay is an old House with a rich and singular history that contributed significantly to the development of Burgundy throughout the 20th century. It was bought at the end of 2017 by the founder's great-grandson, Laurent Delaunay, an oenologist and wine entrepreneur, with the aim of restoring its position among the great names of Burgundy. Starting with the 2017 vintage, Maison Edouard Delaunay offers a selection of around thirty vintages concentrated on the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, ranging from regional appellations to Grands Crus. Precise, subtle, well-balanced wines, without excess, for the most demanding wine lovers and enthusiasts throughout the world.
Description
Gorgeous cherry red in colour. The fine, complex, fresh nose is evocative of sour cherry, tangy forest berries and spring blossoms, followed by a touch of caramelized crème brûlée and sugared almonds. Lovely, well-integrated oak. Velvety, rich, full-bodied start to the palate. Notes of wood and spices – orange peel, bay, black pepper – are followed by rather smoky nuances of peat and underpinned by a hint of limestone and graphite minerality. The finish is still a little tight, with its acidity and tannins that are typical of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The finish boasts pleasing notes of liquorice and violet. This great wine is well suited for cellaring.
