Chateau de Chambert
Château de Chambert is the largest organic and biodynamic estate in Cahors, having received certification in 2012 and 2015 respectively. The estate is home to 45 hectares of vineyards, of which 80% are Malbec, 17% are Merlot and 3% are Chardonnay, with an average vine of 50 years. They are located high up on the limestone ‘causse’, or plateau, regarded as the best part of the Cahors appellation, producing balanced Malbec’s of intensity and freshness. In the cellar, they work with large oak foudre so as not to overpower the terroir characteristics in their wines.
Description
The 2016 Château de Chambert Cahors Malbec is a deep, purple-violet wine showcasing old-vine concentration and finesse. The nose reveals blue fruits, blackberry, morello cherry, iodine, and earthy, medicinal undertones. The palate is robust and full-bodied, offering layers of blackberry, black cherry, black plum, and a dusting of black pepper, wrapped in leathery texture. Crisp acidity and firm structure are balanced by generous fruit, leading to a long, satisfying finish with lingering notes of dark chocolate and plum juice. Still youthful, it will continue to evolve beautifully with further cellaring.
Food Pairing
This Malbec pairs well with grilled ribeye steak, duck confit, venison, braised short ribs, or aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Pecorino. Its structure also complements rich mushroom dishes and cassoulet.
