Champagne Vazart-Coquart
Champagne Vazart-Coquart is situated in the heart of the Côte des Blancs in Champagne, farming and producing Champagne in the Grand Cru village of Chouilly. The wines were introduced to South Africa via Pieter Ferreira (Graham Beck and Pieter Ferreira), an encyclopaedia of the Champagne region and admirer of the precision and craft at Vazart-Coquart. At the helm since 1991 is Jean-Pierre Vazart as the third generation. An imposing, characterful and innovative vigneron, who has transitioned the domaine parcels over to organic certified viticulture. Vazart are among the top independent and Grower Champagne producers in the region, farming 30 plots across 11ha and specialising in Chardonnay (Blanc de Blancs). Farming for quality over yield, these are far removed from the generic, mass produced offerings of Champagne.
Description
A graceful, elegant, fresh Champagne with an evocative nose expressing flavours of white fruits and red berries lifted by zesty lemony notes and touches of pink grapefruit, underlined in the middle palate by an agreeable minerality which extends delicately to the fresh finish.
