Cederberg
Cederberg is a high-altitude wine estate in the remote Cederberg Wilderness Area, owned by the Nieuwoudt family for generations. With vineyards surrounded by rugged mountain terrain, the estate is known for Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and other South African wines shaped by altitude, isolation and dramatic growing conditions.
Description
If you are expecting a typical New World Cabernet Sauvignon with huge tannin structure and blockbuster personality, then think again. The Cederberg Five Generations Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is set to challenge your previous ideas of this noble cultivar. This wine is all about refinement, purity and intensity of fruit – both in its colour and on the nose – with dark brooding black fruit, cassis and soft black pastels, and only the faintest hint of cedar. On the palate, the fruit keeps dancing, changing pace, allowing the delicate acidity and feather-light tannins to ease the wine from start to finish. This wine will benefit from a few years of ageing before consumption to show off its true beauty. If you simply can’t wait, we recommend decanting the wine before serving.
Food Pairing
Steak! Slightly fatter steak and richer lamb – not too much fat. A light berry sauce will do the thing. Ostrich. kidneys, liver and beef stews will all be fine.
