Boekenhoutskloof
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making. In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Grenache Semillon and Viognier.
Description
The 2021 Boekenhoutskloof Semillon presents a bright, pale straw color. The nose is initially subtle, gradually revealing aromas of melon, acacia flower, kumquat, ginger spice, jasmine, and apple blossom. On the palate, it is pure and elegant, offering flavors of poached pear, quince, starfruit, and fresh lemon, complemented by subtle oak nuances. The natural acidity is well-balanced, contributing to a medium-bodied, textured mid-palate. The wine is understated and gentle, with hints of angelica and chamomile lingering on a saline, slightly spicy finish.
Food Pairing
The 2021 Boekenhoutskloof Semillon pairs well with Cape Malay dishes such as beef bobotie—a well-known South African dish consisting of spiced minced meat baked with an egg-based topping. Its balanced acidity and complex flavor profile also complement seafood, poultry, and creamy pasta dishes.
