The grapes for this Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced from prime vineyard sites in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa, an area renowned for producing some of the country’s best Cabernet Sauvignon. These vineyards benefit from the cooling influences of the nearby Atlantic Ocean and the unique granitic soils, which help develop concentrated flavors and maintain acidity. The vines are meticulously managed using sustainable farming practices, including careful canopy management and green harvesting to ensure low yields and high-quality fruit.

The Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, of which approximately 30% are new oak. This aging process imparts subtle oak influences, such as vanilla and spice, while allowing the wine to develop complexity and integrate its tannins. The careful selection of barrel age and type ensures that the oak complements rather than overwhelms the wine’s fruit and varietal characteristics.

Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making. In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Grenache Semillon and Viognier.
