Annandale Wines
Annandale Wine Farm is the oldest farm in the premium red-wine producing Helderberg wine region in Stellenbosch. It is also one of the 15 oldest farms in South Africa with Simon van der Stel granting the title deed of Annandale in 1688, only 9 years after establishing Stellenbosch. The cellar and manor house dates back to the early 1700s and these original buildings remain unchanged and operational to this day, reflecting the rich heritage of this old wine farm. The Du Toit family (French Huguenots) see themselves as custodians of the property. Fifth generation winemaker Hempies du Toit, who is also an old Springbok Rugby Icon of the 1800s, prides himself with producing a wine that reflects the true heart of the terroir it is grown in. In the cellar they use very natural methods of winemaking. Fermentation and maturation are done with as little interference as possible. A more bio friendly approach to the vineyards results in healthier ecosystems as they pay homage to the authentic history of winemaking in the Annandale Valley.
Description
Annandale is well known for it’s deep ruby Shiraz. The wine is led by a soft cranberry and peach aroma that broadens to a sweet yet smoky finish. Expect hints of black pepper, spice and cinnamon. The rich aromas on the nose are also repeated on the pallet making it a well-balanced yet multi-dimensional wine. Colour: Rich and thick intense red. Bouquet: Ripe fruitcake of intense plum, dark berry and spice. Taste: A combination of dark berry syrup with soft plums, custard, cinnamon and spice. Smooth long finish.
