Both the Chenin Blanc and Clairette Blanche selected for the Van Niekerk Vintners Sonwater 2021 come from Swartland. The sandy decomposed granite soils of the area produce a complex and interesting wine with different layers on the palate.

The wine was aged in 225L old French oak barrels for 10 months before being bottled.

Both the Chenin Blanc and Clairette Blanche come from the beautiful Swartland. Grapes are whole-bunch pressed into tank for a rough overnight settling using no sulphur or enzymes. The juice is then pumped into old French oak barrels where it is allowed to ferment naturally. After fermentation, the barrels are topped, and the wine is left to age for about 10 months before being bottled.

VNV was born in the heart of the beautiful Overberg in 2019, a perfect setting to pay tribute to my family history. It was here that I grew up on our family farm and even though my winemaking journey took me on a wild ride across the globe, it inevitably brought me back to my roots.
