Rebellie

Beef, Lamb, Game (deer, venison), Poultry

The grapes selected for the Van Niekerk Vintners Rebellie 2020, comes from Anysbos farm in Botriver. The shale rich soils and the microclimate of the area produces a complex Grenache with a very distinctive nose and palate.

The wine was aged in 225L old French oak barrels for 10 months before being bottled. A further bottle aging of 1 year took place before the wine was released.

Grapes are received from Anysbos farm on the Swartrivier Road. For the 2020 vintage the grapes were fermented in two batches, the one being 100% whole bunch (majority of the blend) and the other 40% whole bunch. After the wine was fermented dry it was left on skins for a further 3 weeks for a post fermentation maceration.

VNV was born in the heart of the beautiful Overberg in 2019, a perfect setting to pay tribute to my family history. It was here that I grew up on our family farm and even though my winemaking journey took me on a wild ride across the globe, it inevitably brought me back to my roots.
