Van Loveren
Van Loveren has been in the Retief family since 1937 when Hennie Retief snr acquired the land in the Robertson Valley and named it after Christina van Loveren, an ancestor of his new bride, Jean van Zyl. From humble beginnings, Van Loveren has grown to become South Africa's leading family-owned winery, known for their consistency, award-winning wines as well as innovation.
Description
Complex aromas of damson, mulberry and blackberry fruit are complimented by sweet roasted coffee bean and vanilla spice. The palate is beautifully balanced with ripe yet firm tannins, a velvety mouthfeel and flavours of dark cherry, plum, nutmeg, Christmas spices and a long decadent dark chocolate finish.
Food Pairing
A perfect partner to leg of lamb, venison, oxtail potjie, lightly spiced red meat dishes as well as tomato based pastas. Decant half an hour before serving to allow the wine to open up
