Tinta de Toro

Tinta De Toro is one of many synonyms for Tempranillo as used in the central Spanish region of Toro. The black grape produces an added level of richness when cultivated in this region which is not always expressed to such an extent in Rioja. The wine drank by Christopher Columbus on his boats was apparently from the province of Zamora, specifically from Toro and it is thought that this region will probably become one of the best wine producing regions in Spain within the next ten years after having been classified as DO in 1987.
