Bodegas Piedra is a prominent winery located in the Toro region of Spain, specifically in Zamora. It was founded with the goal of creating high-quality wines that celebrate tradition and innovation. The winery boasts one of the oldest vineyards in Toro, planted in 1967, covering 35 hectares. This vineyard primarily focuses on the Tinta de Toro (a local variant of Tempranillo) and Grenache grape varieties, producing wines that are deeply rooted in the rich terroir of the region. Bodegas Piedra is known for producing a wide range of wines, including natural, sulphate-free options, as well as aged wines that capture the essence of the old vines. Some of their most popular wines include Piedra Joven, Piedra Verdejo, and Piedra Reserva. Visitors to the winery can enjoy guided tours that explore the vineyard and cellar, with tastings of wines straight from the tanks during the fermentation process.
Description
Extremely dark red-black cherry in colour, with a violet rim. The nose shows the attractive wild fruits and forest floor notes of Grenache and the dark fruits, mineral and balsamic notes of the local star grape, Tinta de Toro. This agreeable blend has benefited from the subtle effects of high quality oak, gaining notes of vanilla, chocolate and dark roast coffee and adding length and an agreeable roundness to the palate.
