Syrah

This Syrah pairs excellently with grilled lamb chops, wild mushroom risotto, or hearty beef stews. Its robust structure and savoury notes also make it a suitable companion for game dishes and aged cheeses.

The grapes for this wine are sourced from Thelema's Sutherland Vineyards in the Elgin Valley, a region known for its cool climate and high altitude. These conditions contribute to the wine's elegance and complexity, allowing for a longer ripening period that enhances flavor development.

The wine is matured for 18 months in a mix of new and used French oak barrels. This ageing process imparts subtle oak nuances and enhances the wine's structure and complexity, contributing to its overall balance and depth.

Upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve their fresh fruit character. Post-fermentation, the wine is matured in French oak barrels, which impart subtle oak nuances and enhance the wine's structure and complexity.

Sutherland Vineyards is situated just 9 kms off the Atlantic Ocean with altitudes of 140 to 250 meters above sea level. The cool maritime climate allows for slower ripening than in other Cape Wineland areas producing wines with vibrant concentrated fruit flavours and an elegant minerality. All Sutherland wines are bottled and produced at the estate in Stellenbosch.
