Chenin Blanc

Given some time in the bottle, this wine will pair well with rich crustaceans or some lightly spiced dishes.

Produced from a Swartland vineyard planted in 1978. These trellised vineyards are planted on a south-east facing slope and are dryland farmed. The soils are predominantly koffieklip (decomposed granite and iron-rich clay).

The wine spent 7 months in the barrel before bottling.

Late picking only commenced on the 03 March 2021, all handpicked at 24.8 degree balling. The bunches were destalked and gently pressed before settling for 48 hours in stainless steel tanks. Thereafter, the juice was transferred to 500L French barrels for fermentation (9% new oak barrels).

The new age of the Swartland commenced in 1997 when Charles Back stumbled across an old Tobacco farm Klein Amoskuil. Bewildered by the quality of grapes in a region better known for its wheat and rolling fynbos hills the potential was obvious so Charles set forth to acquire the farm and study its soils and extreme climate. Hence Spice Route Winery was born. Spice Route hand-crafted wines have been brought from the Swartland to the Spice Route Destination in Paarl to be enjoyed by all. Enjoy wine tasting in a rustic underground tasting room or outside under the pergola whilst enjoying the panoramic views of Table Mountain and the Simonsberg Mountain range.
