Baron Edmond

This wine pairs beautifully with springbok fillet glazed with black cherry, accompanied by crisp spring vegetables, coriander and quince purée, fondant potato, and a rich red wine jus.

Sourced from vineyards in the Stellenbosch appellation, with vines aged between 10 and 33 years. The sites are drip irrigated and benefit from balanced winter rainfall and summer heat. The 2022 growing season saw an ideal winter, followed by a warm, dry summer that delayed harvest and yielded small, concentrated berries with ripe tannins, contributing to depth and refinement.

Aged for 18 months in 225L French oak barrels, 47% of which were new, and built for ageing at least 10 years from vintage.

Hand-harvested from late February through March, with grapes carefully sorted using optical selection. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel with gentle pump-overs and extended skin contact. Only free-run wine was retained. Select parcels completed malolactic fermentation in new French oak before blending. The components were matured for 18 months in 225L French oak barrels (47% new), with early blending to achieve a harmonious expression.

The Rupert & Rothschild partnership was formed in 1997 by the late Dr Anton Rupert of South Africa and the late Baron Edmond de Rothschild of France. Their vision and guiding principles were carried forward by their sons the late Anthonij Rupert and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild. Today the Rupert family and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild share this prestigious partnership in wine production.
