Orpheus & The Raven
“The answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe and Everything is 42” – Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. In their search for answers to the great questions of life, Orpheus and the Raven’s eyes were opened by the light of the present. But the curious pair knew that beyond the light, the universe had more to offer. “True knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing, Orpheus,” said the Raven. “Then the answer to the ultimate question is obviously 42!” replied Orpheus in delight.
Description
The Orpheus & The Raven Old Bush Vine Chenin Blanc 2022 is reminiscent of Chenin Blanc's enigmatic personality - thought-provoking in colour to its aroma and texture. A youthful green edge adds an instant brilliance that gracefully yields a pale golden core. This initial aroma speaks eloquently of fruit purity and an underlying minerality, imparting a subtle yet electric vitality. Chenin lovers will enjoy how the aromas emerge strikingly: freshly sliced nectarine complemented by a touch of Malden salt, embroidered with finer nuances of quince, ripe orange, nartjie, grapefruit and blossoms evocative of these fruits. The judicious opulence of the wine derived from ripe fruit, oak and lees contact imparts a creamy texture with an ever-present salinity with herbal notes of fennel and lime leaves, adding a savoury sheen for a delightful contrast. The acidity is refreshing, while the pithy texture moulds the wine's structure, like savouring lemon curd spread on toasted sourdough. With remarkable palate weight adding definition and concentration, the apparent tension ensures an airy, weightless quality, speaking of finesse. The wine has a great length, elegant floral accents, and a persistent limy character, adding to the chalky dry finish.
