Opus One
Opus One was founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild legendary proprietor of Château Mouton Rothschild and renowned Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. By combining the great winemaking traditions and innovations of both families the founders’ singular goal was to create an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley. Opus One like any great work arose out of passion. Dedicated to uncompromised quality Opus One’s sole purpose is to express this vision and passionate spirit for generations to come.
Description
The 2012 Opus One exhibits an elegant bouquet of dark fruit (blackberry, cassis, black cherry) with accents of forest floor, graphite, tobacco, and cedar. On the palate it is layered, with plush, satiny tannins, excellent depth, and a core of ripe dark fruit. There are developing savoury and earthy notes—dark chocolate, cedar, subtle spice—that begin to complement the fruit. The finish is long, polished, and lingering, with a refined acidity that keeps the wine balanced.
Food Pairing
Pairs wonderfully with rich red meats such as dry‑aged ribeye, roast lamb, or grilled beef. Also complements dishes with earthy components (mushrooms, truffle) and strong sauces. Hard cheeses with depth (aged cheddar, Gruyère) will stand up well. (Based on style and structure.)
