The 2021 vintage was marked by unseasonably dry conditions — the second lowest rainfall in Opus One history. Bud break was slightly delayed (around April 7), with warmer weather in April‑May aiding shoot growth. The dryness led to lower yields, which contributed to enhanced concentration and flavor in the fruit. Summer was warm but without prolonged extremes (no long stretches over 100°F). Harvest ran from August 31 to September 24.

Aged for about 19½ months in new French oak barrels.

Skin contact: approximately 19 days. Fermentation in new French oak barrels. Use of fine‑grained tannins, careful extraction to preserve freshness. The wine was bottled in July 2023.
