Grand Mere Semillon

This Semillon pairs well with dishes featuring rich flavors and creamy textures, such as grilled fish, poultry, or dishes with umami accents like mushrooms.

The grapes originate from a unique, old bushvine vineyard in Franschhoek, planted in 1936 on a southeast-facing slope at 350m altitude. This high-density, unirrigated vineyard has a low yield, leading to concentrated flavors that contribute to the wine’s depth and character​.

Matured on primary lees in older oak barrels to develop further complexity while retaining the wine’s natural fruit expression​.

After being hand-harvested, the grapes were left on skins overnight. Fermentation was split between selected and wild yeast strains, with 70% of the juice inoculated. The wine matured in mostly older French oak barrels, which add depth without overshadowing the fruit, with regular stirring (batonnage) on the lees to enhance complexity​.
