Grapes come from four different vineyards across the Cape. 39% are from 25 year-old bush vines planted on the northwest slopes of the Simonsberg mountain. 37% are from 30 year-old bush vines planted on deep red Malmesbury shales in Swartland. 15% for the grapes are 40 year-old blow in from False Baybush vines planted on decomposed granite in Darling. The final 9% of grapes are from the lower slopes of the Helderberg Mountain in Stellenbosch. The warm Mediterranean climate is tempered by Atlantic breezes which blow in from False Bay.

30% aged in neutral French oak foudre, 70% aged 12 months in concrete eggs

A regional blend from four different old bush vine sites around The Cape (Darling, Swartland and two Stellenbosch). Whole-bunch fermented up to 30% with gentle punch-downs.

The historical Natte Valleij Farm situated at the foot of the Simonsberg is not a new cellar it’s just been resting for the last 50 years. Famed for its brandy in years gone by it was one of the largest cellars in the area but sadly winemaking ceased in the 50’s. It was bought by the Milner Family in the late 60’s and for 27 years it bred some of South Africa’s finest racehorses. Winemaker Alexander Milner strives to make wine with minimal interference and pretence merely guiding beautiful grapes into character full wines -preserving the intrinsic link between grape and bottle.
