Mullineux
“Wines that transport you to the Swartland.” – Andrea Mullineux Packed with layers of distinctive vibrancy, regional character, great allure and sophistication. Staying true to the Mullineux winemaking philosophy, these wines can be opened and enjoyed upon vintage release, or over two decades from the vintage.
Description
This layered and expressive wine captures our hallmark interpretation of the old vines rooted in the ancient soils of the Swartland. Throughout the growing season, the vineyards experienced intermittent warm days, tempered by cool evenings and minimal rainfall. These conditions encouraged a slow, even ripening, yielding intensely concentrated berries with balanced freshness. The nose opens with aromas of fresh stone fruit and gently poached pear, unfolding onto a nuanced palate marked by notes of yellow grapefruit and ripe nectarine. A lively acidity brings precision and energy, while subtle hints of ginger and citrus linger elegantly on the finish. Best enjoyed served between 10–12 °C, this wine also promises to reward careful cellaring.
Food Pairing
West Coast mussels in a creamy Cape Malay white wine sauce make a perfect match for Mullineux Old Vine White. The wine’s vibrant acidity and layered complexity enhance the briny freshness of the mussels, while subtle Cape Malay spices like turmeric, coriander, and a hint of curry highlight its notes of ginger and citrus-like galangal. The creamy sauce complements the wine’s texture, with a squeeze of lemon bringing out its bright stone fruit and yellow grapefruit character. Served with crusty sourdough or roosterkoek, this dish is a true celebration of South African coastal flavours.
