The Monday’s Child Chenin Blanc 2024 opens with fragrant aromas of poached quince, fresh apricot, delicate florals, and a subtle touch of clove spice. The palate is richly textured yet vibrant, with fleshy yellow fruit and savoury spice seamlessly carrying through from the nose. Bright acidity and tangy yellow fruit give structure and energy, while gentle spice keeps the wine lively and moreish. A wine of freshness and character, with good ageing potential.

Both batches were whole bunch pressed to a stainless steel tank for light settling overnight. From here the juice was racked to big old French oak barrel where natural fermentation was allowed to start on it's own. Once the wine was dry it was stirred on it's gross lees for 6 months. The wine went through full malolactic fermentation. Just before bottling it was racked, sulphured up and protein stabilised. The wine was gently filtered before bottling.

Sourced from two dryland-farmed old-vine parcels in Stellenbosch, this Chenin Blanc reflects its granitic origins and the interplay of site. The majority of the fruit comes from Geluksoord in the Bottelary Hills, farmed by the du Bois family, which imparts weight and richness. The balance comes from Karibib in the Polkadraai Hills, tended by Jozua Joubert, whose maritime influence brings freshness and tension. Both vineyards are rooted in granitic soils and were hand-harvested, then chilled overnight before pressing.

A dream to have something family-owned and operated, and a deep desire to honour some of South Africa’s heritage varieties. South Africa’s vinous history is a unique one, and certain varieties have had a significant influence in shaping where the South African wine industry is today. McFarlane Wines aims to produce fine, honest wines from these varieties and share what we love about them with the world.
