Syrah

This Syrah pairs well with rich, flavorful dishes, grilled foods (including vegetables), game dishes (especially those with stewed fruit and sweet aromatic spices), peppercorn-crusted steaks, and barbecued meat in sticky, sweet sauces. Its abundant fruit complements the sweetness in jellies, chutneys, and berry sauces.

The Syrah vineyards at La Motte Wine Estate are between 10 and 30 years old, situated at elevations of 200 to 300 meters above sea level. The soils, originating from sandstone and granite, vary from heavier textures along the slopes to sandy, well-drained textures in the valley. This diversity contributes to the wine's complexity.

The wine matured in 300-liter French oak barrels for 24 months, all of which were new. To enhance color and extraction, 10% Durif was added.

Grapes were harvested ripe but firm, cooled overnight, and destemmed before whole berries were placed into stainless steel tanks. Selected yeast was added immediately, with fermentation temperatures maintained between 24 and 28°C. Tanks were pumped over twice daily with good aeration. To promote elegance and soft extraction, most tanks were pressed before fermentation completion.
