Pinot Noir

This Pinot Noir pairs perfectly with rich dishes like Beef Bourguignon or braised lamb shanks, where the wine’s acidity and savory notes complement hearty, slow-cooked meats​.

Iona’s vineyards are situated in the Elgin Valley, one of the coolest wine-growing regions in South Africa. The grapes benefit from a long growing season due to maritime influences. The vineyards are farmed organically, with minimal intervention, and hand-harvested to ensure the highest quality fruit​.

The wine was aged for 12 months in 300L and 500L French oak barrels, with 20% new oak used. This careful maturation adds depth and complexity without overwhelming the fruit​.

The grapes were hand-harvested and sorted carefully. Around 8% whole bunches were included for complexity, and the wine underwent a cold soak for 5-7 days before natural fermentation. The wine was aged in French oak barrels (20% new) for 12 months, with malolactic fermentation taking place in the barrels. After this period, the wine was racked and blended before being naturally clarified​.

Iona is a cool-climate Elgin wine estate focused on expressing its distinctive soils and maritime-influenced vineyards through sustainable farming and minimal intervention.
