Great Domaines

Great Domaines was established in 2000, when it started importing fine wine from a handful of top domaines in Burgundy, France. Right from the start, our focus has been on importing domaines that are at the very top of the qualitative scale in their respective regions. The first wine officially imported by Great Domaines was the 1999 vintage from Burgundy domaine, Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier. In the beginning 6 domaines were imported regularly and now the Burgundy portfolio has grown to 37 domaines. Today our portfolio stretches across 116 producers, including the likes of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Vega-Sicilia, Sassicaia, Soldera, Egon Müller, Champagne Salon, Jean-Louis Chave, Giuseppe Quintarelli, Clos Rougeard, Solaia and Château Petrus. In recent years, Great Domaines has added to their portfolio by representing a niche selection of the very best names that South Africa has to offer. The backbone to our success lies in the direct and personal relationships we have with each one of our producers and domaines. This bond allows us the privilege of importing wines that you would struggle to find elsewhere in the fine wine market, especially Burgundy. We value these relationships very highly and make at least one trip each year to visit our producers and maintain these relationships, as well as keep up to date with the goings-on in the vineyard.

Domaine Marquis D'Angerville

Volnay 1er Cru 2018

Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France

Bottle size:

750 ml

Here the nose is notably spicier if less earthy in character on the equally ripe though a bit more elegant aromas of various dark berries and violet hints. There is more restraint to the cooler and less powerful flavors that display only slightly more refinement before culminating in a solidly powerful and built-to-age finale.

Volnay Village 2018

Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France

Bottle size:

750 ml

A more elegant nose speaks of cool and refined aromas of plum, dark currant and lovely spice wisps. There is better density to the more powerful and serious medium weight flavors where the slightly warm finish is notably firmer. At least some patience advised.

Pommard Combes Dessus 2018

Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France

Bottle size:

750 ml

A slightly riper nose offers up notes of poached plum, dark raspberry liqueur and whiffs of earth and underbrush. The supple, round and appealingly textured flavors possess first-rate delineation and a subtle salinity that adds a touch of lift to the sappy if ever-so-slightly rustic finale. 89-91 Burghound

Red Blend from Jura, France

“A classic Jurassien blend of 60% Pinot Noir with 35% Trousseau and 5% Poulsard. Pretty and bright pinkish-red in the glass, this is alive with rose, cranberry and crunchy cherry freshness. A light grip in the mouth, with a slight bitterness balanced by smoky fruit.“

Poulsard from Jura, France

Bottle size:

750 ml

The 2018 Arbois Poulsard is striking. Crushed rose petal, savory herbs, mint, chalk, sweet red cherry, sweet tobacco and pine give the 2018 a brilliant aromatic upper register, while bright acids lend a palpable sense of energy. Readers will find a focused, ethereal red with striking translucence that shares some similarities with wines such as Carema that have a similar alpine character. 92 Vinous Media
