Du Toitskloof Wines
Iconic moments happen around tables. Over the past few decades, Du Toitskloof has earned and enjoyed a profound place at South African tables. Du Toitskloof Wines sources the majority of their grapes for their ranges from the Breedekloof valley, all within a 10km radius of the cellar. This sees to it that all the grapes share similar soil types and micro-climates. With a large array of different terroirs, the cellar makes wine with grapes that have grown along cool mountain slopes, in alluvial soils with high water-retention capabilities as well as sandy and rocky soils.
Description
At first the complexity of fruit, flint and wood balance draws you in. Thereafter the sensual unfolding of jasmine flowers, oriental spice and melon preserve flavours lead you to places you’ve never been. From a single-vineyard old vine site in the Breedekloof, ancient mountain terrain imbues a line, citrus acidity directly from the granite soils of its origin. Poached white pears are enfolded in a mouthfeel derived from a combination of ageing in oak and amphorae. The latter magnifying the inherent earth-like seam and mineral finish.
Food Pairing
Create the perfect table setting as you enjoy spicy garlic lemon butter shrimp paired with a citrus and fennel salad. This Chenin Blanc from a 40-year old vineyard calls for a rich and creamy linguine pasta with pancetta, parmesan and black pepper. As a final salvo bring together a selection of goat cheese, light brie and aged cheddar and experience a match made in paradise.
