The 2017 vintage seems to be a carbon copy of the 2015 vintage however with a lot less rain during the winter months. The farm used irrigation to make up for the lack of moisture in the soil resulting in grapes packed with explosive tannins and fruit flavours.

The wine was racked twice during the barrel maturation time of 16 months. This wine has 30% new oak and the balance 2nd and 3rd fill barrels.

All the fruit was hand-picked cooled down overnight in a coolroom before it was destemmed and vinified. Fermentation takes place at 25-28°C with 3-4 pump-overs and punch downs. Total maceration including fermentation was 11-15 days after which the wine is kept on the skins for an additional 2 weeks before pressed. Malo- lactic fermentation took place in Stainless Steel tanks.

To honour the original farm, our lifestyle range of wines bears the Dombeya name. The Dombeya tree, native to South Africa, has extraordinarily beautiful flowers which herald in South Africa’s spring season. Dotted around our vineyards these trees embrace the cycle of regeneration and renewal, a fitting symbol of modern-day South Africa. Our Dombeya portfolio consists of 5 wines; a varietal range of Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, and a Reserve range with Boulder Road Shiraz and the Bordeaux-style Fenix.
