Boulder Road Shiraz

Braised Oxtail, chimichurri spice, any game dishes, Lamb tangines.

The 2019 was a difficult year. Lots of rain during harvest time after a near perfect growing season. We were fortunate to get the majority of all the Shiraz grapes off without severe botrytis helping the process in the cellar.

The wine was pressed into French oak barrels and left for aging for 14 months before blending and bottling took place.

All the grapes were harvested by hand. The different vineyard blocks were vinified and kept separate for the entire maturation period. The grapes were crushed and immediately set to fermentation. Pump-overs 4 times a day with punch downs. Extended post maceration was done resulting on the wine being 30 days on the skin. This allows the wine to produce softer, more approachable tannins.

To honour the original farm, our lifestyle range of wines bears the Dombeya name. The Dombeya tree, native to South Africa, has extraordinarily beautiful flowers which herald in South Africa’s spring season. Dotted around our vineyards these trees embrace the cycle of regeneration and renewal, a fitting symbol of modern-day South Africa. Our Dombeya portfolio consists of 5 wines; a varietal range of Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, and a Reserve range with Boulder Road Shiraz and the Bordeaux-style Fenix.
