Koplandsteen Chenin Blanc

The bush vine Chenin Blanc was harvested over two different ripening periods. Fermented in different vessels including 225L barrels, 400L Clayvers, and 300L barrels with regular topping and batonage for 10 months. Wine was blended and lightly filtered before bottling.

Steady rainfall throughout the colder winter months replenished water resources and led to sufficient cold accumulation for the onset of bud break. Moderate temperatures through summer slowed down ripening which resulted in a later harvest. The 2021 vintage will be celebrated as a smaller crop with outstanding quality. This vintage also marks the first release of Chenin Blanc from the Koplandsteen Vineyard in Stellenbosch. Hailing from registered old vine Chenin Blanc, this inaugural release expresses the complexity and quality of heritage status Chenin Blanc.
