Colour: A surprisingly dark hue for this varietal. Nose: Lovely fresh cassis aromas with hints of tobacco, allspice and savoury notes. Palate: The nose follows through onto the luscious palate with lively berry and cherry flavours. Although medium-bodied it is a bold wine with an elegant structure.

The vineyard is then hand-harvested in three components, picked days apart. The grapes were hand-sorted, de-stemmed and slightly crushed whereafter spontaneous fermentation is facilitated by daily pump-overs. A total of 10% of the wine is fermented as a whole bunch component and another 10% with stem contact to add freshness and complexity. The wine spent an extended time on the skins after fermentation.

A bush vine vineyard referred to locally as ‘Hermitijk Kop’, or Hermitage Hill, on the farm Twyfeling in the Bovlei. Planted in 2003, this is a Cinsaut (also known as Hermitage) heritage site, as the previous vineyard was also Cinsaut, planted in1964. The decomposed granite soils on predominantly west facing slopes located from 250m to 300m at its highest point, create a unique terroir which produces a remarkable wine.

Bosman Family Vineyard

The Bosman family have a history of growing wine in the Bovlei of Wellington, dating back to 1810. Throughout eight generations they have worked hard to create a better life for all who live and work on the farm, rising to challenges and finding solutions, often in the unexpected. Wine is made in their historic 260 year old cellar, but their approach is progressive and innovative: a plant improvement unit ensures that Bosman remains at the forefront of the development of new, clean plant material and varietals; while their vine nursery ensures a continuous supply of healthy rootstock and vines.
