With his pirate beard and sleeve of tattoos, Tremayne Smith is producing some seriously fresh wines with a ton of character under his Blacksmith label. The Chenin seems very natural at first with a distinct oxidative element. Quite quirky on the nose, it shines on the palate with a lot of texture and salty flavours. Old vine fruit sourced from remote areas of the South African coastal region sets this Chenin apart.
