Blackbook Winery
Founded in 2017 by Sergio & Lynsey Verillo, the Blackbook winery occupies a unique space under a Victorian Railway arch in Battersea, London. A micro-negociant, they specialise in cool climate, still expressions of pinot noir and chardonnay, working with vineyard parcels in the surrounding countryside of Southern England. They also look to experiment and have amassed a glowing reputation and loyal following in a short period.
Description
“Nutty. Oatmeal. Polenta. Lemon… A little skinny but the texture is brushed taffeta and a hint of the graininess of pear skin. Starts off like citrus rocks, glittering with cold minerality. Quinine, saline, edgy. Then it starts to shift, like a crystal sun-catcher as the light moves from dawn to midday. Lemon and grapefruit sweeten to tangerine and bitter orange, there’s a brush of vanilla, of clove, of nutmeg, it unfolds slowly and without fanfare.” JR
Food Pairing
Grilled Cornish lobster, roast chicken, bacon and mushroom pasta in cream sauce, macaroni cheese, fish goujons, roast veal or shellfish broth.
